Outdoor spaces designed to last over time

Outdoor spaces are changing their role in contemporary architecture: from a “complement” to a functional extension of interior environments. Terraces become open-air living areas, pool edges function as circulation paths, gardens host dining and everyday relaxation areas. Today, designers approach outdoor spaces with the same attention reserved for interiors: material continuity, perceptual comfort, verifiable durability.
Skema’s WPC decking interprets this evolution with a mature solution: the tactile and visual appeal of wood combined with the performance stability of a technological composite. Three collections—Real, Pacto and Compact—designed to meet different design requirements, with defined technical features and verifiable performance.

Hybrid material, clear performance
WPC combines wood fibers and a polymer matrix in a composite structure that preserves the aesthetic language of natural wood. The result is a surface that maintains authentic texture, tactile warmth and consistent technical performance over time.
Real is the high-end co-extruded line (2898×143×22.5 mm), created through the fusion of wood fibers and polyethylene at extremely high temperatures. The production process excludes adhesives and chemical substances, using only recycled materials for the core. The central mass is encapsulated and fused with a polymer film that acts as an external protective shield, providing waterproofing, scratch resistance and easy cleaning. An ultra-natural aesthetic available in the finishes Teak Ossidato, Teak and Ipe Lapacho.
Pacto (2900×150×20 mm) stands out for its solid internal structure and a surface treatment that enhances the subtle wood-grain effect. The solidity of the structure offers resistance to strong concentrated loads, making it suitable for projects with curves, chamfers, steps and high-traffic areas. Available in the shades Lipari, Vulcano, Linosa and Panarea.
Compact (2900×140×20 mm) features a solid structure designed to withstand heavy loads and to create curves, chamfers, claddings and steps. A distinctive feature: it can be used on both sides, with one side featuring fine grooves and the other wider grooves, offering two contemporary aesthetic options. Available in Argilla and Grigio Platino.

Stability that frees the design
All SKEMA decking solutions are designed for outdoor use and withstand rain, snow, saline or chlorinated water, without cracking due to frost or deforming due to temperature fluctuations. Waterproofing, scratch resistance and ease of cleaning complete the performance characteristics. For designers, this means specifying a solution with clear technical parameters; for end clients, surfaces that maintain character and functionality over real-life use over time.
Installation and application versatility
SKEMA decking offers solutions for different design needs, from residential terraces to high-traffic areas. The structural characteristics of the three lines—from the solid structure of Pacto and Compact to the co-extruded technology of Real—allow application versatility in various outdoor contexts. For installers, this means working with a material that is easy and quick to install, with controlled timelines and execution precision.

Contexts of use: from private living to contract
A residential terrace transformed into an outdoor living area. A poolside in a hospitality setting where Compact resists exposure to chlorinated water. A garden pathway connecting different functional zones: entrance, relaxation area, dining area. Verandas and outdoor seating areas in retail and restaurant projects extend commercial spaces outdoors. Wellness areas find in wood-polymer composite a solution with a natural effect.
The material adapts to different geometries—linear bands, running patterns, direction changes—and coordinates with other Skema indoor systems, allowing designers to work with a cohesive material palette from the entrance to the terrace.
Outdoor as a design opportunity
Designing outdoor spaces with the same reliability criteria as interiors means expanding compositional possibilities: no longer residual space, but a fully-fledged living resource. WPC decking allows work on material continuity, spatial sequences and connections between indoors and outdoors without performance anxiety. Designers can focus on the concept, installers on timing and execution precision, and end clients on everyday quality of life—without post-installation uncertainties.
