Supporting the UN Global Compact<\/strong> is a very specific choice: that of binding one’s management to ten universal principles<\/strong> regarding human rights<\/strong>, labor<\/strong>, environment<\/strong>, anti-corruption<\/strong> and publicly reporting on progress every year<\/strong>. The mechanism is simple in form but demanding in substance: those who join commit to aligning strategies and operations with the ten principles and to declaring progress made annually through a Communication on Progress<\/strong>. It is not a certification. It does not issue labels. It produces accountability<\/em>: the willingness to be measured, compared, and verified by external stakeholders. <\/p>\n The Italian Network<\/em> adds an operational dimension. It is not a trade association: it is a space for discussion between heterogeneous entities, oriented towards the production of applied knowledge and the activation of partnerships<\/em> linked to the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda<\/strong>. For an SME with an international vocation, access to this ecosystem has concrete value: it anticipates regulatory trends, opens institutional relations, and allows for the comparison of practices with entities operating in different sectors and geographies<\/strong>. <\/p>\n Membership did not happen overnight. Skema published its first Sustainability Report<\/span><\/strong> at the end of 2025, drafted according to the Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs (VSME)<\/strong>, the European standard<\/em> promoted by EFRAG<\/strong> for small and medium-sized enterprises. The document formalizes an ESG path<\/strong> already underway: ISO 14001<\/strong> environmental and ISO 9001<\/strong> quality certifications, FSC<\/strong> and PEFC<\/strong> product certifications for the wood<\/span> supply chain, adherence to Minimum Environmental Criteria<\/strong> for the public market, and a photovoltaic system<\/strong> active since 2018. <\/p>\n The report is not the finish line. It is the tool that makes what the company does visible and comparable. The United Nations Global Compact is the international context in which that visibility becomes a binding commitment. <\/p>\n For those who design spaces\u2014architects, interior designers<\/em>, and contractors<\/em>\u2014the sustainability of a supplier is not an incidental variable.
