Skema was born in 1992 from an idea of Domenico Barabas. After working for years in the furniture and furnishings industry, Barabas realised the potential of laminate flooring, which was gaining increasing popularity in Europe and the United States. In a country like Italy, where parquet and ceramic floors dominate, laminate represents a revolution, both in terms of performance and installation, thanks to new interlocking technologies. Together with laminate, Barabas introduces a new flooring culture. In the province of Treviso, one of the major manufacturing districts for made-in-Italy furniture, Skema started production under its own brand name, soon becoming synonymous with quality Italian laminate flooring. As the years went by, the succession of innovations and developments in the field of floor and wall coverings led Skema to focus on expanding its offer.
